As more of us will be working from home during self isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we want to remind our readers about the importance of staying hydrated in the absence of the office water cooler.

The BBC has recently published 5 tips for working from home as the government encourages everyone to work from home where possible. More and more of us will be working from home during this time — a whole new experience for many of us.

While working from home suits some, others might find it to be a challenge. Without the hustle and bustle of office life and the comfort of your own home, things can get a little too comfortable, and it becomes easier to fall out of our daily good habits - like visiting the water cooler for a top-up of water.

It is important that we continue to practise healthy habits during this time for our well-being and productivity, so how do we maintain healthy habits at home?

Something we think is hugely important, obvious but equally easy to forget, is to stay hydrated. In the absence of the office water cooler, its important to make sure you’re still getting your regular water intake. Staying hydrated supports vital brain functions by providing electrical energy, allowing you to think faster and more clearly.

Numerous studies have found that good levels of hydration significantly boosts productivity and creativity. Increasing your water intake may just be the boost you need to keep your focus sharp and lift that dehydration-induced brain fog.

Always choose water over any other drink to hydrate yourself, and avoid sugary drinks as they can reduce the amount of fluid that your body actually retains. Caffeinated drinks such as tea and coffee are also culprits of mild-dehydration, so don’t forget to hydrate with water as well.
